Some styles of music are enjoyed more when performed “live” by a soloist or band. Jazz or Classical music for instance are nice when heard from a recording but a live performance provides a whole new dimension and listening experience. Other styles of music are best appreciated by an audience when the original recording is heard as played by a DJ; “Gangnam Style” is a perfect example of this.
No two audiences are exactly alike and when choosing music for a special event like a wedding or party it is best to strike a balance. Having both live music and DJ (with wifi for immediate access to the internet) a performer could play just about any request and satisfy any music preference.
Planning Entertainment for your Party
In planning entertainment I would say, “Give ’em what they want.”
I enjoyed performing at the Long Beach Airport Holiday Inn on New Year’s Eve. General Manager Robert Smit and Food and Beverage Director Roberto Vargas presented a beautifully decorated club and lots of great food. The night was a perfect balance of “Live Solo Piano Music” during dinner and “DJ Dance Music” after dinner and into the evening. Before performing I started by greeting guests and took their solo piano music requests while they enjoyed cocktails at their tables. Then, as the DJ I talked with guests and received dance music requests. I had wifi and connection to the internet so if needed I could down load and play any requests I didn’t already have. From having said hello to each guest earlier it was very easy for me to get everyone up on the dance floor for “Times Square New York” new year count down at 9:00 PM and again at 10:00 PM for Chicago New Year’s count down. I played everyone’s requests. By the way, I didn’t play Gangnam Style; no body requested it.
DJ Dance Music
Everyone danced and had a good time; we could see fireworks displays throughout the night from the Panorama Restaurant Penthouse windows. What a great way to start 2013 Happy New Year!
