Hello everyone:

The title of this episode is “Do I Need A Wedding Coordinator? Part 1.” Wedding & Event Podcast Episode 33.

Do I need a wedding coordinator? This is a question that I am often asked by couples. The terms Wedding planning. Wedding designing. Wedding Coordination are sometimes used interchangeably as representing the same subject. Indeed they are separate subjects. In this discussion, I commented to Tobey that this question is a hard one to answer. And she said,

“Sure it is! There are so many different circumstances that would create a need or a desire for a couple to have a wedding coordinator. It’s not always with the physical or the physicality of the location or the temperament of the couple…”

Elegant Music Quartet @ Queen Mary Bridal Show

This Sunday August 6th the Elegant Music Quartet will perform aboard the historic Queen Mary during the Bridal Show Place Bridal Show. Show hours are from 11:00 – 4:00.

We will be performing and exhibiting in the Queen’s Salon Ballroom as you enter the show. Though we have a large collection of video on our video index page this is a great opportunity to see Elegant Music perform Live at the show.

Elegant Music started with Sheila and I performing Flute and Piano music for weddings and parties. We added strings to create the Elegant Music Quartet. Over the years we have performed with some very talented musicians.

The Talented Biagini Family

Tomorrow at the bridal show we have the pleasure of performing with the mother and daughter of the talented Biagini family. Cellist Cathy Biagini and her daughter Violinist Sarah Biagini. By the way husband and father Steve Biagini in addition to also being a cellist is the music librarian for the Los Angeles Philharmonic!

Cathy and I performed Cello and Piano music recently for a wedding ceremony at Vibiana where we featured music recorded by “The Piano Guys.” See: Beautiful Wedding @ Vibiana Los Angeles

Here is a video that includes Seth Biagini playing cello with the Elegant Music Quartet for a Beautiful Wedding @ Bel Air Bay Club.

Seth studies and performs in New York. Sarah is in her senior year studying violin at the Cleveland Institute of Music in Cleveland Ohio. It will be really cool to play with mother and daughter this Sunday.

Beautiful Wedding @ Pasadena Museum of History

The Pasadena Museum of History is an amazing outdoor wedding and special event location “in the back yard” of the Fenyes Mansion on Orange Grove Blvd.

Orange Grove Blvd was once called “Millionaire’s Row”.

Look to “tradition” for wedding ideas.

It is true that people get inspired and amazing things “just happen” at a celebration. When working out ceremony music with a couple I sometimes suggest inserting a tradition like a Wine Ceremony, Sand Ceremony, or Flowers to Mothers… This sets the stage for the couple and or guests to express themselves. And yes, amazing things happen!

Christina and Ket wanted to acknowledge their parents during their wedding ceremony.

A tea ceremony is an Asian tradition dating back to the 9th century where the Bride and Groom serve tea to their parents as a way of honoring them. The “tea ceremony” is literally translated as “way of tea” in Japanese, and “art of tea” in Chinese.

Usually done as a separate private ceremony the tea ceremony can be easily inserted into a wedding ceremony.

In addition to wanting contemporary music for her wedding ceremony Christina chose a traditional Chinese song called “The Moon Represents My Heart” to be performed during the Tea Ceremony. There are words to this beautiful melody. See: Tea Ceremony

  • DJ Dance Floor Surround Sound

  • Professional Announcing

Professional announcing starts with an itinerary SKETCH. This is really just a logical sequence that the event could take for that location. This sketch is further developed to include scripted announcements. See: A Full Evening of Entertainment

I learned a lot putting this new website together.  Not only did I learn about the technical nuts and bolts of a website but I also learned the simplicity of Elegant Music.  You see, Elegant Music began by Sheila and I playing music together; and people liked it.  There isn’t anything we can’t achieve together.  That’s the simplicity of it.

What is a Classic?

What is Elegant?

“Elegant” means of a high grade or quality.

Derivation:  From Latin eligere – to elect, select or to choose. (Webster’s on line dictionary)

The Successful Wedding @ The Langham

It was very evident how happy everyone was for Sam and Cayle.  Beautiful wedding ceremony in the Horseshoe Garden, a really fun cocktail hour on the Viennese Terrace and during the wedding reception in the Viennese Ballroom there were meaningful toasts, guests enjoying the company of each other and losing themselves on the dance floor.  You can always tell how much an event was enjoyed by how long guests linger after the party is over. Well after this party no one wanted to go home!

Great American Song Book

Music was important to this family.  Songs were carefully selected.  One of the first questions Cayle asked was, “do you play any music from the “Great American Song Book?””  It was refreshing to be asked such a direct and interesting question.  Being a pianist and jazz player I am familiar with music from the “Great American Song Book” by American composers such as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, recorded and made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Sinatra and now Michael Buble.  Eagerly I said, “Sure!” This is classic American music.  Indeed this music continues to influence art and culture worldwide.

Live Music and DJ Dance Music

This bride’s vision was to have:

  • Selections from the “Great American Song Book” by the original artists performed for the wedding ceremony (pre-recorded)
  • Continuing this style of music played live during the (cocktail hour and a half) by the Elegant Music Jazz Trio.
  • DJ Dance Music. A variety of Top 40 and all time dance music favorites during the wedding reception after dinner.  Elegant Music Dance Floor Surround Sound (a four speaker setup) was chosen for “loud dance music” later in the evening.

Cayle kind of apologized for the “do not play list” being longer than the “play list” but again I admired that music was that important to her.  Actually all the work she had put in on these lists allowed me to organize the evening so that the right music selections would be played at the right time.
