Creative Choices of Music
Since 1990 Sheila and I have encouraged those planning music for a special occasion to make creative music choices and as a result have quite a collection of interesting music.
It is really a lot of fun to discover new music. Each song has a story attached to it reminding us of the party or wedding and the couple who chose it.
Recently at the request of one creative bride we added the Theme from “Dragon Born”, The Theme from “Game of Thrones” and the Theme from “Downton Abbey” to the Elegant Music repertoire. Here is a picture from that wedding.
Backyard Graduation Party
It is fun to shop and pickup souvenirs while traveling; bringing them home we have a memento of that trip. Arriving at the gig in Encino last week to set up my keyboard I found myself in an enchanted garden that included some very interesting items that must have taken a lifetime to collect. Talking with the party host I learned that traveling and collecting is exactly what he and his wife have done resulting in their very unique collection of art, sculpture and nicknacks comfortably displayed in their backyard and throughout their home. Sure enough each item has a story and is a reminder of the places they visited, meals they enjoyed and people they met on that trip.
Solo Piano and Sing Along
It is definitely a sign of the times that anything can be searched and pulled up on one’s hand held device. In lieu of a karaoke monitor with lyrics everyone just pulled up the lyrics of the song they wanted to sing on their hand held device and I had the welcome challenge of accompanying them on my piano. One great song leads to another and the end of 4 hours we were having so much fun we went another 2 hours. Was I tired? No, more like exhilarated!
Conversation Piece
One might ask, “what’s more important, the memory or the object?” Certainly the memory and experience can give an object meaning; one could consider the object is as valuable or special as the idea or experience connected with it. Indeed there is a story, a purpose and something learned connected to each object we own.
Successful Party
The hosts achieved a successful party where guests experienced beautiful surroundings, good food, favorite music and the company of each other. They had fun and yes, I had fun and took home memories I will never forget.
Sincerely,
Eric Zimmermann
