Veteran wedding planner Tobey Dodge once said that there has to be a balance between “design” and “function”. Certainly it is important to make your wedding as beautiful as it can be and that is the “design” part of a wedding. The wedding as to be organized (planned well) and directed so that it easily functions.
Can you delegate responsibility?
The Groom and Bride can be considered the King and Queen as in Victorian times. The bridal party is their court; this implies government and administration.
Are you a good judge of character? Can you tell if someone is up to the task and get the job done?
If you are an executive in your day job then you know the value of a subordinate who is naturally responsible who gets things done.
An executive sees the big picture and can predict the future and makes plans accordingly and above all, gets their staff to get his plans done.
Would you assign responsibility to members of your bridal party? If you are not sure, as a test, give them some task to complete. Determine, are they responsible? Can they get things done? Is it done right?
Administrative Function of a Wedding
If you are the bride, then the wedding coordinator is your subordinate. The wedding coordinator is your chief of staff, the director, the person who is ultimately responsible and who should take it off your shoulders. This being done you can take your mind off of all the details and enjoy being the bride at your wedding.
There is a unique relationship between your coordinator and your Master of Ceremonies. For example: Your wedding coordinator works behind the scene setting up the next thing and then cues the MC when it is ready. The MC is the guy out front conducting the festivities. The MC gets the cue from the coordinator and follows the script and makes the announcement.
Even if no one is technically hired, somebody has to wear the hat of wedding coordinator and on the day of your wedding if you are the bride… it shouldn’t be you!
