Music for each part of your event.
There are several parts to a special event and these flow one to the next as the evening progresses. Each part of a special event can have its own music.
Hello, my name is Eric Zimmermann. I am a DJ and Master of Ceremonies but I am also a Pianist, String Bass Player, and Bandleader.
People ask me “what kind of music do you like?” Well, that’s a big subject and it depends on the mood I am in and also depends on the occasion.
I talk with people all the time about the music they like and that is an adventure in itself. Planning music for a special event is a lot of fun. Here is a true story of my working with siblings planning their parent’s anniversary party.

The Cocktail Hour
Let’s take a cocktail hour for example. Guests are arriving, mingling and talking. Cocktails and refreshments are served and perhaps there are Hors d’oeuvre (a French word meaning “outside the work”—that is, “not part of the ordinary set of courses in a meal”) Wikipedia.
This is a festive beginning to a party or wedding reception. Lots of ideas come all at once as one plans music. The host is providing an opportunity for guests to interact with each other: Location, Food, Drink, Decoration. The right music creates an atmosphere that supports and contributes to guest interaction and reflects on the host and what they like.
Here is an e-mail I sent to a couple planning music for their cocktail hour:
“Hi Sara:
My name is Eric Zimmermann. I am a DJ and Master of Ceremonies, Pianist and Bandleader.
You had seen the Elegant Music Quartet perform at the Los Angeles Convention Center Bridal Show.
I spoke with Mo yesterday and this morning about instruments you would like to perform for your cocktail hour and I like your ideas. We do have a lot of video on our website but not every music combination that we offer is shown. Elegant Music Video Index
Please see the video links below but more importantly, I think it best if we had the opportunity to speak by phone and talk about the music you like and discuss options for your wedding cocktail hour and then I can suggest the right service:
Mo says you like violins…
so please see: Elegant Music Quartet Video Sample
…and that you like Jazz…
so please also see: Elegant Music Jazz Video Sampler
He says you also like sax…
so please see: Elegant Music Jazz Trio with Vocalist and Sax
Please also see: Solo Piano Video Sampler
Again, let’s talk about music. I would love to hear more of your ideas…”
Choosing Music
From the above excerpt it is clear that music is personal and unique to each couple. The location and atmosphere you want to create can influence the ensemble you choose. Also, your music requests can influence the ensemble you choose.
Talking about music is a lot of fun. One great song leads to another.
My question to you is what kind of music would you like for your cocktail hour, wedding or dinner party?
Sincerely, Eric Zimmermann
