The Wedding Coordinator is a person who is hired by the bride and groom to help them with their wedding.
The more I look at what a wedding coordinator is responsible for, the bigger the job seems.
I think there are 3 parts of a full-service wedding coordinator which include advice, planning and the execution of the wedding day.
On the day of the wedding, all of the services the bride and groom have hired come together and each one directed or coordinated. Additionally, the wedding coordinator has to keep track of the bridal party so they are all together and where they need to be. Additionally, vendors and service staff need in place and ready for their cue.
In this way, the wedding coordinator works 10 to 20 minutes in the future of “what’s happening now”.
For example, the coordinator would make sure the champagne is poured and the best man and maid of honor are standing by before they cue the Master of Ceremonies to make the announcement for the champagne toast. At the same time, the wedding coordinator has their eye on the kitchen to make sure dinner will be on time.
On the day of, the responsibilities of a wedding coordinator might be analogous to directing a live television show. After all, a wedding is done “in one take.”

As a DJ/Master of Ceremonies, I always enjoy performing in the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium Biltmore. There is a lot of history in this Los Angeles landmark.

Question: What’s the difference between a Wedding Planner and a Wedding Designer?
Or a Wedding Director and Wedding Producer?
How about a Wedding Coordinator and Day of Wedding Coordinator?
I’ll admit, I have been providing music and entertainment for weddings throughout Southern California for over 25 years and up until a short time ago, I thought these terms were just different names for the same thing.
Through talking with Tobey Dodge I am finding out that these terms have their own definitions and are not interchangeable. I am learning what distinguishes one from the other and what each does.
For me, this sheds some light as to why some events went really well and why some events didn’t go as well as they could have.
I think a couple new to planning their wedding would benefit from knowing these terms and how they relate to the services they will be hiring.
I also think by knowing these definitions event professionals will be better able to serve their clients.
In this episode, Tobey defines what a Wedding Director is.
Wedding Director – The wedding director is a representative of the religious organization who gives guidance to the couple regarding the policies and customs of that organization. The activities of a wedding director traditionally have to do with ceremony preparation for the couple and facilitator of the ceremony rehearsal.

Of course, it should be “Fun”, yet meaningful.
Regarding presentation, no matter how “relaxed” or “informal” the proceedings, I think care should be taken so that the Bride and Groom and their families are represented well.
Of course, it should be “Organized” and “Beautiful”.
A wedding couple consists of 2 unique individuals. Their wedding is a statement of their own ideas of what is (Formal, Informal, Fun, Meaningful, Organized and Beautiful). In many ways, their wedding is an expression of their ideals that they are striving for together in their new life as husband and wife.
Though we offer help, only they determine “What Kind of Wedding they are Planning”. And as event professionals, it is our task to understand their vision and with our experience and skill, help them achieve that vision.
I regard the success of such an event as an awesome responsibility… and a lot of fun :-)
