It’s Better to Say What You Have To Say
I think that public speaking is fun. As a member of ToastMasters International and from years of being a Master of Ceremonies I can tell you that a good presentation is remembered long after the event concludes and that regrettable presentations are quickly forgotten. Sure, some get nervous when they have to speak before an audience. I think saying what you have to say is more important and even therapeutic than not saying what you have to say and having to live with yourself.
Presenter’s “Intention” and the Quality of his Presentation
I have heard some really inappropriate things said during a toast; the funny and yet sad thing about this is that usually the person making the comment is totally unaware of what is coming out of his mouth. On the other hand I have heard some amazing presentations that were completely improvised and yet, being totally from the heart, really hit its mark and so elevated the event that much more.
As a presenter it’s a good idea to plan what you are going to say; write it down and practice it. Record it into your phone; listen to it and record a better version; and so on. By this drill alone the speaker himself understands his own words better and the message becomes more concise.
As a host it is a good idea when choosing who will speak at your event to choose carefully. Who is speaking? What they say will reflect on you. This will either elevate your event or bring it down somewhat. The same goes for choosing a Master of Ceremonies for your special event. His presentation of your event will reflect on you. Beautiful wedding @ Dove Canyon Country Club
The son of the groom was the Best Man and it was his responsibility to make a toast and toast he did! I was so taken with this young man who in addition to being well spoken and a perfect gentlemen has studied ballroom dancing and plays the piano! Immediately upon hearing his toast I asked his permission to reprint it here:
This wedding was a triumph in many ways. Here is to great toasts! Congratulations Christopher Jr.! Very well done!!
